What are the principles of collaboration with Science PR in the scope of promotion of scientific projects?

The most important thing is communication. By consulting Science PR, a scientist is able to verify their idea for an outreach campaign, discuss the framework of collaboration with the agency, learn what this collaboration looks like and find out about the benefits of building visibility and personal branding in traditional media.

Scientists can work with the agency within the framework of promotion of results of a scientific project (1) and by appearing in the media as experts (2).

(1) The scientific projects which are to be popularised by Science PR are indicated by SASO.

SASO has adopted the following criteria of selection of projects to be promoted:
- research has to be published in the form of a scientific publication (high-scoring article with IF or a so-called habilitation monograph or a monograph submitted for promotion to the rank of professor)
- we want to make sure that the areas of the promoted research represent the key areas of KU’s core disciplines

There are 4 stages of collaboration:
• collecting information - the author fills in a form, and then answers additional questions. At this stage, it is possible to specify several directions of research, which the scientist may consider relevant or interesting from the point of view of the stakeholders of their project or of the general public. This stage makes it also possible to consult Science PR and check and decide which areas of research should be emphasised in the course of promotion.
• approving press releases - the author of the research verifies and modifies the text until it satisfies the expectations of both parties,
• the author of the research offers commentaries and gives interviews to selected media outlets (Science PR always picks the media outlets that match the research project in terms of relevance and reach, and the author of the research may suggest the means of communication they prefer or would rather avoid).
At the end, the author of the research receiving a summary of the outcomes of collaboration.

(2) A faculty member may also be asked by Science PR for a commentary regarding some current events taking place in the domain of business, economy, society, or law. Contact is initiated by a SASO employee, who will ask you for your permission to give your contact details to an employee of Science PR. This stage is also when your area of expertise may be verified. Next, you will be contacted by a Science PR employee, who will inform you about the subject to be addressed, the form of your statement, the type of medium (radio, press, etc.), and the further course of the process.

If you would like to get involved in addressing current events, please contact Science PR directly.
